Description
This fortress was built in the 12th century during the hundred years wars. It consists of a large structure surrounded by four towers on the corners. In the 19th century, changes were made: the North Tower was destroyed, a terrace was created on the south side and windows were added to all walls. The gallery known as "Palme game", with its columns on the eastern facade, dates from the 13th century. In the 15th century, the outbuildings and the ramparts were refurbished. There are still the north and east walls, which form a right angle and are flanked by towers on each corner. Two of these towers still retain the consoles on their way. This fortress inspired George Sand his novel "Les Maîtres Sonneurs" to George Sand.
